about

Along the Drive is a seven-piece independent rock band from Chicago, Illinois, known for their driving rhythms, wall-of-guitars sound and melodic songwriting hooks. The group came together in 2006 and has played at some of Chicago’s most notable venues, such as Metro, Double Door, and House of Blues. They performed for several years as Aya Sofia, then McLovin, but changed their name to Along the Drive (ATD) to memorialize their latest EP Time-Lapse, which was released March 31, 2015.

Every day the clock appears to move faster, memories grow longer and dreams fade into reality. What really matters at the end of the day are the experiences you collect and the people you touch “along the drive.” Time-Lapse is a collection of four songs that captures Along the Drive at a very specific point in time. It wasn’t until ATD’s primary songwriter, Dustin Weinberger, met Larry Millas (founding member of local rock legends Ides of March) that the band felt it was time to release something more than the demos Dustin produced in his home studio. In the summer of 2014, ATD began sessions at World Stage Studios, home to another local rock legend and founding member of Survivor, Jim Peterik.

“I was looking for a modern sound with a vintage vibe,” Dustin says. “My influences range from indie bands like The Japandroids, Delta Spirit and White Denim to classic rock icons like Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band and Bruce Springsteen. Larry has decades of experience and was able to bring the vision I had in my head to life. Jim’s Grammy Award for ‘Eye of the Tiger’—displayed prominently on the mixing console we used— also added some multi-platinum ambience to the project.” The end product is a well-crafted debut album from the Chicago band. Clocking in at 20 minutes of original music, it leaves the listener satisfied but craving more. “We put our hearts into this album and hope there is an audience that enjoys listening to it,” says Dustin.

The album is now available digitally, and there is also a limited number of CDs ready for purchase on CDBaby.

Along the Drive is Bob Barnett (keys), Josh Brooks (bass), Chris Cox (drums), Ankur Gupta (percussion), Scott Kemper (lead vocals), Matt Primack (Guitar), Dustin Weinberger (Guitar, B3, keys).

Track Name: Everlasting Fire
I was ready to get up and leave
Then I saw you and you brought me to my knees
With one smile I’d freeze
… Just keep on, … Just keep on, ... Just keep on, Keep on shining

Started talking and it broke my heart
Why did we meet in this godforsaken bar?
Our fates maligned by the stars
… Just keep on, … Just keep on, ... Just keep on, Keep on shining

What if you asked all the right questions?
What if I had all the answers tonight?
Would we love with a lasting fire, everlasting fire?

The world keeps turning and the windows frost
Lost conversations are sticking to the glass
It’s time we move on from here
… Just keep on, … Just keep on, ... Just keep on, Keep on shining

What if you asked all the right questions?
What if I had all the answers tonight?
Would we love with a lasting fire, everlasting fire?

Something tells me that this is just right
You’re punching numbers while they’re turning on lights
This place is closing, Last Call, tonight

Hey babe you know just what we’re here for
Don’t be scared and don’t think about it too much
We’re still young and it’s just a few steps out that door

Take my hand let’s walk outside
That big yellow taxi can give us a ride
I don’t care where you’re going, just take me with you

What if you asked all the right questions?
What if I had all the answers tonight?
Would we love with a lasting fire, everlasting fire?
Track Name: Sometimes
Am I flyin’ or am I dreamin’?
Am I cryin’ ‘cause it hurts like hell
Oh Dear all I want is you here lying next to me tomorrow
But just when I get there it’s time to go

This crime is silenced by our love
Time is priceless but it’s free
But it’s clever it’ll never come back here to find me
Baby maybe we were put here to live in each other’s dreams

Sometimes, I’m alright but need to get out of site
Sometimes, sometimes yeah
Sometimes, I need to call on a friend to pick me up again
Sometimes, sometimes yeah

Do I deserve your affection?
The perfection of your insurmountable ways
Oh, we laugh and laugh and laugh and together break through the silence
When the sirens ring you can cling to our memories

Sometimes, I wake up on the floor but keep coming back for more
Sometimes, sometimes yeah
Sometimes, I’m not there but you know I still care
Sometimes, sometimes yeah

Time is of your own making
Its clock ticks inside your head
The moment you stop thinking
Time too stops dead

Sometimes I’m alright but need to get out of site
Sometimes, sometimes yeah
Sometimes, I lean on a friend to pick me up again
Sometimes, sometimes yeah
Sometimes, I wake up on the floor but keep coming back for more

Sometimes, yeah
Track Name: Run Wild
We were just kids out there running in the streets
Way too young but now we’re way to old to reach
Can’t slow down if you’re moving way too fast
I’m alright with all those nights in the past, we had a blast

Used to shout “look at me I’m king of the world”
I’d stay on top until I was lying on the floor
Thought we knew it all but we did not know the truth
“til that night when she showed it all to you, show

How wild we would run
Running toward that sun
Thinking this feeling would never end

Still surprised the police just let us go
They took our drink and had a party all their own
Your daddy told me I’d better get home
Stayed all night with those girls on down the road

How wild we would run
Running toward that sun
Thinking this feeling would never end

Over twenty years have gone and now our lives have moved on
But those memories, once in a while I can still see you smile

We were just kids out there running in the streets
Way too young but now we’re way too old to reach
Thought we knew it all but we did not know the truth
‘Til that night when she showed it all to you
Track Name: Rushmore/Glory Fades
It’s like the secret, you can’t figured out
The possibility is not far from doubt
I’ve been making life awful hard for you
But the easy days are falling far from view

It’s like getting hit by a speeding car
Climbing to your bed, with my flag drawn
I’ve been lookin’ for, my own Rushmore
Though it was you, ‘til you closed that door

And people say that maybe I’m too young for you now
And people say that maybe I’m just foolin' around

It hurts me so when I see her move
I’m helpless and a little confused
I was in the shit, but I never felt used
Punched in the face, what’s your excuse?

I’ve been lonely for too many days
Like a Clipper ship, married to the sea
I’ve been looking for my own Rushmore
When the wind stops leaves you wanting more

And people say that maybe I’m too young for you now
And people say that maybe I’m just fooling around
